Sonnet Attempt

I’m terrible at writing my own poetry and for my portfolio I have to write a sonnet. It’s not going well. What do you guys think?

The open door lets in a long lost face
On the road you covered a hundred miles
Travel to an unfamiliar place
Worth the cost of petrol? To see those smiles
Separated on those long, lonely nights
Lusty eyes of friends as they look for dates
The poisonous doubts that leave stinging bites
The lonesome third wheel, not casting out baits
But this distance begins to take its toll
Swap your postcode for mine, leave and depart
Wondering if our love can keep us whole
Cut our losses now and make a new start
And so with every absence that you take
Always know that my heart will never break
